Or you’re a daredevil trying to overclock and max the fans instead of getting a proper cooler.) Once temps cool back down, wait for a bit, then turn off the fans if you wish. The laptop’s fans should just normally blow again by themselves when you feel cold air. Just be sure to do this carefully if it works, for you will overheat if you forget to turn your fans back on when things are getting too heated! They aren’t going to turn back on automatically unless Fan Ovr isn’t checked(like if you’re using default auto)! To prevent accidental overheating, you may want to set some custom fan curve configs on the main menu, turn Auto on, and checkmark the desired curve instead. At least if something gets hot it’ll bump out of sleep and ramp up without risking anything!

Well as of this update 1/8/2021, setting the fans to 0 rpm hasn’t damaged anything and it has helped with vibration issues if I ever suspect minor vibration affecting game installs or when I leave the PC idle for downloading with the lid/screen open. Still wouldn’t recommend lifting it like that for I honestly don’t know whether or not zeroing the fans stops or disables the fans altogether! Just be sure to not forget turning the fans off when its’ getting hot since Nbfc.exe basically stops your normal laptop’s fan control from turning back on automatically at given limits to cool things down.

A “fan error” issue popped out after checking event viewer on Windows, but the PC ran fine despite all that, didn’t break or smell like smoke. Nbfc causes a bunch of EC controller errors within Event Viewer every 15-30 seconds after testing. Some folks say it’s normal, but this will bloat up the log exponentially with warnings! Either use it and get errors, or uninstall the driver from the device manager to fix that issue. I still think it won’t kill my fans completely. (At least while idle/minimal use. Do not use this setup when gaming or editing media, it will reach dangerous temperatures eventually! I may want to write my own registry values to read temperatures and set fan speeds instead so fans can naturally turn on at 0 RPM idle… One day. Wait… Does the laptop have a zero RPM setting via registry I can edit? Nah… Unlikely unless someone already knows exactly where!) Just wish there genuinely was a 0 RPM config from the get-go natively, oh well.)

For undervolting and underclocking your CPU…

ThrottleStop Undervolting + Underclocking Guide! (Don’t worry, 10th generation processors work similarly; but be sure to understand memory caching, and try applying a much smaller mV undervolt like -45.0, -50.0 mV instead to start and see if you crash from Prime95 before attempting greater ones since newer ones crash easier according to newer guides! Do not use this with XTU!)

For the latest ThrottleStop versions (Wait do old ones natively start without task scheduler? Ah crap), wait, to start up ThrottleStop without an agonizing popup and starting flawlessly each time, open Task Scheduler, and create a new basic task. Set the actions to start a program, point the location to your .exe of ThrottleStop, set it to Run with highest privileges via checking the box in the ‘create task’ menu from earlier on the first window I think(?) and when you login (there should be an option that says exactly that) it’ll start with Administrator rights and quietly apply undervolts and underclocks! (Checkmark Task Tray too on the initial install of ThrottleStop before sending it to the task scheduler forever so you know whether it’s on without having it bloat your view or starting minimized without your knowledge when running via Task Scheduler! Don’t forget an INI file saves your configurations in the folder it resides in so you don’t magically lose everything. Keep it wherever, just know some folders require administrative rights which is bad for ThrottleStop since normal users will get denied to read it and subsequently lock itself over administrative issues.)

A quick breakdown over these two images, I disabled BD PROCHOT (Bi-directional Processor Hot) after repasting my laptop since I’m fairly confident my system can handle heat and won’t thermally throttle my laptop to run sluggishly despite being in 60-70ish celcius/centigrade like what occurred to my 9300H before turning it off. Warning! If you encounter serious heating problems 90+ celcius over time without repasting or anything after buying it, do not turn it off! It is a safety feature after all that tells your motherboards components to chill by stopping speed completely and throttling system performance! Also I unchecked Intel Power Balance because there’s barely a performance increase enabling or disabling from what others have researched on when gaming compared to the GPU anyways.

Second image (It’s a little old, I’ve managed underclocking to 3.8 – 3.9GHz to drop down nearly 10-15 degrees entirely whilst losing merely 2 – 3 fps across majority of games except CPU bound ones where you really want maybe 3.9 – 4.1 GHz like in CS:GO/Valorant/Genshin/TF2/L4D2!): I don’t really touch Turbo Power Limits to be honest, I keep things default. Although be sure your CPU core and CPU Cache are both somewhat equal to each other when undervolting or things become incredibly unstable. For undervolting I used to get away with a -125mV undervolt, but now I can only achieve -110mV undervolt, don’t ask what happened because sometimes windows updates or CPU microcode updates occur completely changing things for the worse or “stricter” guidelines behind the scene. Honestly 9th generation, specifically my 9300h used to take huge undervolts. I haven’t tested it again in a while to ensure max performance either since its heavily diminished past 110. (Be sure to checkmark Unlock Adjustable Voltage to undervolt silly, also ensure that your values are SAVED before quitting! There’s a checkmark on the far bottom right saying Save Voltages immediately. This forces TS to remember your numbers right away so it doesn’t accidentally reset after hitting OK!) Good luck!

There you have it! Ways to solve heating, solve jet engine fan problems (when idle) and lower temperatures significantly (and theoretically increase maximum battery lifespan from 1-3 years to 4-5 via conservative 50%-60% charging)! Note your performance might get a small ding, but unless your absolutely nit-picky with having 72 fps to 65 fps… (Who’d honestly complain getting those kinds of frames on max/medium with underclocking or undervolting?) This is perfectly ideal and completely safe as you’re forcing components to sip nicely than devour power and throttle like a jet engine running out of gas.

(Oh don’t forget keeping drivers fully updated natively with an external source via SDIO, Intel DSC, updating Intel ME to current update by manually replacing files into system32, all to resolve potential CPU spikes and micro-stutters when gaming, lowering bloatware such as pre-installed nonsense or whatever causes too many interrupts such as having a USB stick constantly plugged in without use to raise minimum performance and battery life to acceptable margins, and ensuring absolutely nothing bad happens on default!
